Mandela Future Leaders Visit Staten Island

Young scholars of many nations from South Africa to Uganda are touring the United States as part of President Obama’s Young African Leaders’ Initiative. The 25 students are among the recipients of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for 2016.
Under the sponsorship of the United States Department of State, the scholars are attending a six-week institute in academics and leadership at locations across America. Through a partnership with Wagner College, the Mandela Scholars are touring Staten Island, including a visit to Lifestyles for the Disabled to learn about services for people with developmental disabilities.  Evelyn Kpadeh, a journalist and producer from Liberia, told White House staff: “by visiting Lifestyles for the Disabled, I have learned that everyone is special and has the ability to make a difference.
