A Voice For People With Disabilities

Save Our Services “SOS” Rally at CSI Advocated for Disability Services

Disability advocates gathered for a Save Our Services “SOS” Rally at the College of Staten Island on Friday, March 10. The location marks the beginning of the Willowbrook Mile, commemorating the site’s days as an institution serving people with disabilities. More than 100 people with disabilities, parents, direct service personnel, advocates and other supporters attended the rally.

According to cRis marchioNNe, founder/executive director Person Centered Care Services, “In my 30 years, I’ve been to a lot of gatherings.  They have been small and it’s usually the same people.  It’s great to see such a diverse community come together and support people with an intellectual disability.”

“It was great to see the disabilities community come out to support our services,” said Joseph Padalino.  According to Gregory Perosi, “We need an 8.5 COLA (Cost of Living Adjustment) and a $4,000 increase for direct service personnel.”
